What is RILTE?

Research-Integrated Learning and Teaching Excellence is a Community of Practice at CQUniversity that fosters a scholarly approach to educational practice — one in which active research directly informs curriculum design, pedagogical innovation, and student engagement.

The community explores how research methods, research outputs, emerging technologies, disciplinary expertise, and educational inquiry can be translated into richer learning experiences for students. RILTE members recognise that effective tertiary education emerges from the dynamic interplay between research activity and teaching practice, with each domain enriching the other.

RILTE is not limited to generative AI. It provides a broader space for discussing how research can inform curriculum design, student engagement, assessment, teaching innovation, and the scholarship of learning and teaching across all disciplines.

What members can expect

RILTE is designed as a flexible scholarly community. Members may simply receive updates or participate more actively when relevant opportunities arise.

Periodic newsletters covering research-integrated teaching ideas, recent publications, discipline-specific examples, and developments in the scholarship of learning and teaching.

Seminars and events

Invitations to upcoming RILTE seminars, workshops, and cross-disciplinary presentations. Members are notified of opportunities to attend, present, or collaborate on scholarly teaching initiatives.

Collaboration opportunities

Opportunities to connect around collaborative projects, co-authored publications, and teaching-focused grant ideas that bring educators together around shared research-teaching integration challenges.

RILTE is hosted through the SAGE website because SAGE exemplifies what research-integrated teaching can look like in practice.

SAGE (Structured AI-Guided Education) demonstrates how empirical educational research can be translated into structured pedagogy, student resources, and assessment assurance. Developed by Dr Mahmoud Elkhodr and Professor Ergun Gide at CQUniversity, SAGE is grounded in 30+ studies involving more than 1,500 students and has been included among TEQSA GenAI Knowledge Hub resources.

RILTE extends this principle beyond generative AI. It welcomes educators working with any form of research-informed teaching — including discipline-based inquiry, learning analytics, assessment reform, educational technology, work-integrated learning, student partnership, and the broader scholarship of teaching and learning.
